EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE!

  • INHALATION
  • Convulsions. Cough. Laboured breathing. Sore throat. Vomiting.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness (Further see Inhalation).
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Redness. Pain. Lacrimation.
Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal cramps. Burning sensation (further see Inhalation).
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Separated from strong oxidants, iron, steel, food and feedstuffs. Well closed.
Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.
    UN Hazard Class: 6.1
    UN Packing Group: I
    Marine pollutant.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
YELLOW, OILY LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic and corrosive fumes. Reacts slowly with alcohols, oxidants, reducing agents, iron and steel. Attacks many metals.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: 0.1 ppm; 0.76 mg/m3 (ACGIH 1994-1995).

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20░C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of vapour at high concentrations may cause lung oedema (see Notes). Exposure at high concentrations may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
    Boiling point (decomposes): 147-148░C
    Relative density (water = 1): 1.7
    Solubility in water: none
Vapour pressure, kPa at 20░C: 0.4
    Relative vapour density (air = 1): 6.4
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA

    N O T E S
Environmental effects from the substance have not been investigated adequately. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. The name perchloromethyl mercaptan is also used for a compound with CAS number 75-70-7 (Cl3SH).
